Hello All Its now 8 weeks since he last edition of B n P….my excuse is that I have been waiting for "the mother “ to deliver the “proper” update…she tells me its under production.
Anyhow some more of the quirky observations…in no particular order
1.In the mother's book titled “notes from the small Island” the author makes fun of the small parking spaces in the UK. Well it not funny. When we were in London with Andrew and Monica, we parked in a carpark off Regent St and we had to climb in and out of the cars thro the back seat.. not even Georgie would have been able to get in and out the front seat !!!!…and its not just London. Even my slim self?? struggles to get in and out of our car in the local Waitress carpark.
Why can’t one but string tea bags in the UK!!!!
Im not sure whether this made headlines in Aust but it should have…a single German soccer league player in the Bundesleague (not the right spelling) scored 5 goals in 9 minutes. This is equivalent to James Hird kicking 20 goals in a quarter …( perhaps I should have used a another example…but the point remains..)
While on an incredible sporting note, Usain Bolts’ performance at the world championships must be one of the greatest of ALL time. (God I hope he is clean…)
I can’t believe how big Rugby is in this part of the world. If Aust gets beaten on Sat I wont be able to go to the golf course for a couple weeks… somehow I’m know as the boy from Oz. (BTW I think its a great pity that one of the UK teams did not make the last four. How on earth England put them selves in the hardest group in beyond belief.
On more important matters, the refugee crisis over here is shattering….imagine one country agreeing to take in 800, 0000 refugees in one year. That's what Germany is doing. Whats happening in north Africa is absolutely tragic…
On a lighter note, I followed an elderly female driver in Southampton recently. Someone forgot to tell her that modern cars have electric indicators. She was still was still hand signals to stop and turn right…her arm must get very cold in winter
My barber shop over here has got it all…including a snooker table to use while we are waiting. ( Mind you I have decided to try a grow some hair to keep warm during winter.)
One of the nicest little pubs here in Romsey is called “The Olive tree”. Last week there was a sign outside the pub saying that the STUPID manager had forgotten to re-new the hotel licence and would be unable to serve alcohol for al least 8 days!!! The sign welcomed clients to come and enjoy their food and bring their own grog. The note was signed “ Manager”…
The last one for now …some of the town/village names over here are fantastic… Today on the way back from our weekend in and around the beautiful village of Dartmouth, we drove past a village called “Cricket St Thomas”. BTW we did three magnificent walks - 4 to 6 miles each. But boy were they steep…Ive skin off my nose from walking up some of the hills and the backside of my jeans are shredded from some the down hill stretches…..
Cheers Dad/Tony
