Bits n Pieces 10

Hello All

Time for a bit more trivia/nonsense from “over here”

1. This is one that was left over from BnP No 9. “The best Cafe in the WORLD”…or so the Budapest tourist office describes it..(Tina does not agree)

2.  (….thanks to B Shea)

3. Recently I drove Claire to a Conference at the home ground of Hampshire Cricket….beautiful new purpose built ground with Hilton Hotel (rooms overlooking the ground) and conference facilities in the Shane Warne Stand…he played with Hampshire for many years and apparently is a local hero

4.  By accident, I opened an app that has apparently been on my phone for years called “Health”. Don’t know it may be a standard app on all iPhone. In any case its interesting. It records the distance you walk each day …it does do include car travel and does not include walking on a golf course because my phone is then in my golf bag. In other words it the phone has to be on your person to record distance…and it seems to be based on satellite monitoring rather steps. Very clever

The interesting part is that during the 7 months prior to our move to the UK I averaged 4.3km per day….very ordinary. In the last 7 months in the UK I have averaged 10.5km per day. As we have said many times, walking in UK is a very enjoyable past time.

5. Guess what I found in a secret blackmarket after months of searching every traditional supermarket in the country. All I’m allowed to say is they did not COSTA  a lot...

The inventor of string tea bags should be knighted

6. How much fuel is used by a Boeing 747 during take-off?? A. Ten metric tons from start of runway to cruising altitude !!! Amazing

7. As you have probably heard, we walked the Avon canal towpath from Bath to Devizes last week…about 40 km. First half was very scenic..second half a bit boring. The interest for BnP was the overnight stop a a bnb. It was great old house built in 1810 for the wharf master at Barton on Avon. Very comfortable except they provided a six inch thick doona in a room with 22 degree hydronic heating. They have been reported to BASL  !!!

8. KIDS KORNER ….oops I’ve drawn a blank

Cheers

Tony /Dad

PS : In case you haven’t heard, BASL stands for Blanket And Sheet Lobby, one of the worlds fastest growing organisations. They promote the functionality and practicality of blankets and sheets in matching prevailing climatic conditions. “One size does NOT fit all” as the proponents of dumbas - sorry doonas - would have you believe.
