Bits n Pieces 12
Hello All
Time for a bit more trivia from the mother country…..some BITS more trival than other PIECES….
1. This one has been weighing on my mind since last August .... somehow I think it's a great photo.
Obviously this four are focussed on an important project/investigation. The Agent on the right is overly focused on getting an outcome. The Agent second from the right is clearly in charge of security and is looking down alleys for any sabotage while the Agent third from the right carries relevant documentation. The Agent on the left ? Well all I can only assume, he is carry some bribes in case they become necessary…
…of course, in reality it is the male part of Dom and Emma’s wedding party walking up to the Rye (UK) Town Hall for the wedding
2. I see that tumbleweeds made news in Ausr recently. Coincidently at the same time over here some nutritionist was recommending tumble weed as the latest fad in health foods ??
3. Talking food, I have found the world’s best Ice Cream
4. Still on food..when did you last have a HAMburger with ham in it ??. In Aust, the “Hamburger’ is usually something you buy at the local takeaway. Over here “Burgers” are usually on main Course menu’s at pubs and resturants.
5. This is the actual map we used for the now infamous Cheddar Gorge walk…a bit the worse for weather. The walking route is the red line that goes around in a oval type shape. When the infamous event occurred we were walking along towards the top right hand corner of the route at the top of the Gorge. Can you read the location in the top right hand corner…Ironic or what !!!. I didn’t notice this until I was empting my coat pocket last night. ( in case you can’t read it, the area is called “Bone Hole” …they have now changed it to “Broken Bone Hole”)
6. Hands up if you want Campanology included in the 2020 Olympics? There are currently 40,000 Campanologists campaigning to have their “Sport” included.
7. One for the punters. You would know that one of the form indicators us experts use is “Won at the Track”. Over here they have another one “Total Distance covered at Track”. Last week at Cheltenham, there was a 10 year old chaser who had covered 605 miles at the track !! Yes thats equivalent to 20 three mile races. …..he ran 4th in a field of 16…
8. I have always thought that we have too many levels of government and politicians. Like us, the UK has two houses of Parliament…House of Commons and House of Lords. The Lords include 26 who are “Lords Spiritual” …these are Bishops. The rest are “Lords Temporal”. Some of the Peers in the Lords Temporal inherit their spots …others receive life time appointments by the Government of the day. At the moment the Government is said to be considering the appointment of 40 new Peers/Lords. That will bring the total current number of Peers in House of Lords to 846 !!!! How does the Usher of the Black Rod cope??
Before we know, Dame Abigail Ollason will be appointed to the Lords….
9. There car enthusiasts ..and there are real car enthusiasts. In the street leading into Holmann Drive where we live in Romsey there is a chap…about 60 …bald as a badger…and has made a fair investment in “Ink”. He has much loved small two door “Fiesta’ car. Everytime you pass his house after working hours, he is out the front giving loving care and attention to the Fiesta. It is painted immaculately in matt black with bright yellow wheels and trim. The weather is no barrier….when darknesses decends about 4.30 in winter, he has a miners helmut light to throw light on his important duties. Rain only slows his down a bit …Im not sure whether he would work on thro snow because we haven’t had any.
The work is serious stuff…the head cover, spark plugs and carburettors are off and are cleaned at least 4 times a week. Brake pads and oil levels are inspected daily…but it only gets a value grind and new pistons rings once a month…The Romsey tourist info centre runs tours past “The Cranky Car Man”…pardon the pun
…..I have just slightly overstated his passion, but he is incredible to observe…There is a sign on the back of the Fiesta “ BUILT NOT BOUGHT”
10. KIDS KORNER (I know that Mick has appointed himself as Quality Assurer for the part…and I accept that this one is “work in progress”. He needs to take note of the first entry….)..
Q Can you spell eighty in two letters ?
A. A T
Q How can you make seven even?
A. Take away the letter s
Q Why are ghosts bad liars?
A. Because you can see rirht thro them
Now we are off to explore Hampsted Heath in London…I am sure it holds much trivia..
cheers
Dad/Tony
PS in case …like me…you don’t know what Campanologists do, they are bell ringers!!! and they very serious about their Olympic campaign
